Certified Medical Transcriptionist (CMT):  AHDI offers a voluntary certification exam to individuals who wish to become Certified Medical Transcriptionists (CMTs).   This certification is maintained through recertification.  Individuals interested in this exam should have 2 years of acute care (or equivalent) transcription experience.

Certified Medical Transcriptionist - Retired (CMT-R):  Any CMT no longer practicing medical transcription may choose to retire their CMT credential and maintain the designation of CMT-R, or Certified Medical Transcriptionist - Retired.  The only way to reinstate the CMT credential is for the individual to take and pass the CMT exam.

Registered Medical Transcriptionist (RMT):  AHDI offers a voluntary certification exam to individuals who wish to become Registered Medical Transcriptionists (RMTs).  This exam is applicable for recent graduates of medical transcription education programs or MTs with fewer than 2 years' experience in acute care.  This certification is maintained through recertification.

RMT/CMT STUDY GROUP:  If you want to join a study group, visit AHDI-NEMA.  For more information or to apply to take the CMT or RMT exam, go to AHDI Website.
